Has your teen had issues in school due to alcohol or drug use, or have you noticed behavior changes or drop in grades? Have you had an increasing concern that alcohol or drugs are becoming an issue in your child’s life, and you are unsure how to proceed? Through Teen Intervene, the teen begins to explore reasons for their use and is offered education on substance use to allow them to make an informed decision for themselves. Internal motivation for change will create lasting change. The program varies depending on the needs of the family and the clinical recommendation. Both individuals, one-on-one sessions with the client as well as group sessions, may be available. An important part of the program is family involvement in sessions where effective communication is explored, and a home agreement is developed. Initially, the first two sessions (once per week) include the client. The third session will include the family. Ongoing contact with a therapist is recommended for both the teen and family to assess the progress and implementation of the home agreement.Teen Intervene is a Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation program intended to provide education, support, and guidance for teens, 12 to 19, and their parents.
Hazelden describes how Teen Intervene can help your teen by:
-
Identifying the reasons they have chosen to use alcohol or other drugs
-
Examining the effects of substance abuse in their lives
-
Learning to make healthier choices
